About
John Derenzo

John Derenzo is a Social Realist Oil Painter who’s paintings focus on raising awareness regarding the atrocities and effects of war, violence, gun violence, mass shootings, and social and economic disparities. His training took place at the famed Art Students League in NYC, Chelsea Classical Studios, BridgeView Academy as well as via various workshops/private study. In addition, he studied privately and is mentored by Master Painters Max Ginsburg and Ricky Mujica.

Derenzo mixes old world techniques with a contemporary flair, which yield a unique style and vibrancy to his work. Derenzo currently works out of a studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Derenzo has recently won best in show at the Greenpoint Gallery and in April 2023, had a solo show there called “Resensitiztion”, which focused on raising awareness and addressing how desensitized we have become in terms of war, gun violence and mass shootings. He is a member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists, NOAPS, and the Portrait Society of America.
